From the Convention Chair
Welcome to the 2010 Sigma Tau Delta Convention, Storytellers! No matter how different our backgrounds, a universal connection that we have with one another is story, and the 2010 Convention will be a great place for each of us to spin a yarn. Call it alchemy or enchantment or magic…whatever you want to label it, there is no denying the power of a good story. Stories give us a connection with our lineage, a sense of place, a sense of self. In a world where hate and divisiveness have too often taken center stage, we need more sharing and more listening. We need more stories.
I recently was asked, “Who will be the storytellers at your convention?” My response was, “Who won’t be a storyteller?” Sigma Tau Delta conventions have always been a place where a collaborative story can take place. It has been, and will continue to be, a community experience in which all participants have opportunities to share their voices in papers, panels, and yes, even the bad poetry contest. Join me in St. Louis, the Gateway City. Listen to celebrated authors, have a bit of fun, and most importantly, tell your story.
