The Department of English offers the Master of Arts in English. Our program emphasizes literature, writing studies, and cultural studies. Our graduate students find success in many fields including: Community college teaching; Satisfying continuing education requirements in secondary education; Careers in professional writing; Scholarly accomplishment leading to admission in top doctoral programs around the nation. Students in the graduate program in English collaborate with our graduate faculty to develop individualized plans of study that suit their scholarly and professional goals. We actively help students with financial support and professional development. Recent graduates are working as professional writers in Chicago, Denver, and other major cities. Many are teaching at community colleges across the nation. Others have accepted assistantships at top doctoral programs including the University of Notre Dame, University of California Riverside, SUNY Buffalo, the University of Minnesota, and Saint Louis University. The English Graduate Organization (EGO) is an active student organization on campus for our graduate students. We award 16 fully-funded teaching assistantships each academic year.
